It's hard to believe that six months have already flown by since I joined the PacGenesis team! I suppose it stands to reason that it would seem to have passed by so quickly if you lend any credence to the old adage, "Time flies when you're having fun!" When I think back over the last few months I thought it would be fun to point out a few highlights that I've experienced so far:
- A mere month after joining PacGenesis I was given the chance to join my team at Innovate 2014 in Orlando. What a great experience this was! It was definitely energizing to have the opportunity to network with other people in the industry and put faces to names. Since it was my first Innovate I tried to take full advantage of the opportunities to attend lectures, panels and talks while taking breaks to enjoy the festivities of the Expo. I walked away from Innovate full of new ideas and surging with excitement about the products and technologies I'd seen there.
- One of the great things about this industry is that it's always changing and there are always new products to learn. While sometimes the last few months I've felt like I was drinking from the fire hose when it comes to how much there is to learn and absorb, it's been heartening to be exposed to new products and to see customers really taking advantage of some of the great function available.
- Learning is one part of a cycle of communication that requires each of us to educate one another. I've had several opportunities in the last six months to take part in education series where, as the instructor, I was able to share my knowledge with others and try to impart the same level of excitement about technology I have to them. I can also testify to the accuracy of Frank Oppenheimer's quote, "the best way to learn is to teach."
- Last, but not least, joining a new team (whether at the same company or a different one) gives me the chance to gain some perspective by viewing problems through the lens of someone else's thought and to appreciate the different skill sets that people bring to the table. I'm grateful for the chance I've had to do this with the PacGenesis team and look forward to continuing to work with them to fine tune how we can coordinate our various strengths to grow as a unified team.
Thanks for a great first 6 months!
